Statue of Liberty

I've visited the Statue of Liberty three times before but never knew about the political drama surrounding its funding. The story about Pulitzer's newspaper campaign to raise money from regular Americans was fascinating - I had no idea Lady Liberty was almost left sitting in crates! The audio quality was crystal clear even with the ferry noise in the background. The 30-minute length was perfect for the boat ride over and walking around the base.

As someone visiting from India, this tour gave me so much context I wouldn't have gotten otherwise. The explanation of how Bartholdi designed the internal structure was brilliant - I kept looking up trying to imagine those iron ribs inside. The narrator's voice was engaging and the pacing worked well with walking around the pedestal. Really brought the immigrant experience to life in a way that felt personal and moving.

Good overview of the statue's history and the French connection was well explained. I particularly enjoyed learning about Bartholdi's inspiration from the Colossus of Rhodes. However, I wish there had been more details about the actual construction process in France and the technical challenges Eiffel faced with the internal framework. The tour felt a bit rushed through some of the engineering aspects that would have been really interesting to explore deeper.

Downloaded this on a whim since it was free and I'm so glad I did. The section about Emma Lazarus and how 'The New Colossus' poem actually wasn't added until years later blew my mind. Standing there reading those famous lines while hearing about the immigrants who saw this same view was incredibly powerful. The app worked smoothly and synced well with where I was walking. Worth every penny - well, it's free, but you know what I mean!
